Choosing Your Tiara

Help Guide

Choosing your tiara and jewellery is a big decision especially if buying on-line. We have put together a few guide lines to give you a helping hand in making your decision.

When purchasing your tiara its advisable that you have the following in place:-

  • Your wedding dress is selected.

  • You have a rough idea of how you would like your hairstyle on the day

  • Tiaras

Tiaras offer the most dramatic look for any bride. They are a beautiful accent to any style dress, from simple and modern to traditional. You can wear your tiara with or without a veil, that comes down to personal preference and style of wedding.

A tiara should draw attention to your face by framing it but not over-powering, or drawing attention away from your face.

The wrong shape tiara can make your face look too short and full or too long and thin. Here is a rough guide to finding the correct tiara for your shape face.

  • Round/Full Face: To make your face appear longer, choose a tiara with some height or one that has a peak…. A princess style tiara is perfect for this.

  • Oval Face: Avoid pieces with a peak at the top, which will make your face appear longer. Choose a headband, side tiara or hair pins.

  • Long Face: Choose headbands or tiaras with little or no height that extend over your head from one side to the other at an even height.

  • Headbands

Headbands are a very functional for brides who want to wear their hair down. Headbands can be used to keep her hair away from the face. It also can be worn to up hairstyles and great for shorter hair.

Double headbands are the most versatile of all. They can be worn flat on the head as a headband or titled forward as a tiara. They are becoming increasingly popular especially brides who do not want to wear a veil. These are great for Bridesmaids too!

    Tiara Comb

A comb is a simple piece that can be worn with almost any hairstyle. It has a tiara look but some brides do prefer the security in the grip they offer. These are very popular with proms.

Depending on the style, it can sometimes provide for a less formal look, and can be worn on different parts of the head. They can be worn to the front of the head like a tiara, to the side or even to the back if you have a French Roll.

    Hair Pins

If the idea of wearing tiara doesn't feel like your style then this is a great option. They are a great option for any hairstyle. Alone in your hair for a simpler look, throughout an up style weaved in between curls, over the tiara, scattered throughout your hair. They can also be placed in your hair so that when you remove your veil for the reception you have added sparkle.

    How to wear your tiara

Your hair dresser will fix your tiara securely in your hair using grips. At Bridalise we use comfort bands also to give added comfort and security.

The tiara can be worn alone or with a veil. It’s advisable to purchase a veil with a comb attached as it will keep the veil in place. If you're wearing your hair up the tiara should be placed right in front of your hairstyle with the veil placed at the base of your hairstyle. If you're wearing your hair down place the tiara on the top front part of your head and attach the veil just behind the tiara. (see our guide on “how to wear a veil”

    Helpful Tips

  • Match the beading of your dress to add the stones/crystals in your tiara. If your dress has pearls in the detailing, select a tiara with some or all pearls. If your dress has crystals, select a headpiece with crystal.

  • A tiara with only crystals and no pearls will match any dress.

  • A tiara with pearls should match either the dress or match your jewellery. Most pearl tiaras go well with off-white or ivory dresses but are also available in white.
